From the October 2016 issue…
2014 Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Chardonnay
“From the original S&B block planted in 1971, this is a resolutely savory chardonnay that deserves a few years in bottle. With air , it expands from marine saltiness and toasty lees-driven scents toward fruit that’s powerful, fresh, plump and earthy all at once.”
2014 Durell Vineyard Chardonnay
‘Vintner Gavin Chanin draws from the oldest chardonnay vines at Durell, planted in 2001 on light clay mixed with tufa and sand. This isn’t a wine for the oak-shy, but the fruit underneath is luxurious and intoxicating, melding a sunny peach flavor with something more evasive, like the scent of pollen – a meadow in bloom.”
